Fairy Dust & Marshmallows

Sadie lost her first tooth this past Monday. She pulled it out all by herself. I can't believe it! She was so excited and proud of herself. I almost cried. She told me, "Your little Sadie is growing up!"

Of course, the Tooth Fairy paid her a visit that night. She brought her a "gold" dollar and left fairy dust all over her room. When I picked Sadie up from school later that afternoon, she told me, " When we get home, I'm going to sprinkle the fairy dust on me and see if it will make me fly." Isn't that the most adorable thing ever?

And she actually tried it. Unfortunately, fairy dust must only work on fairies. She took it pretty well.

Today she was playing in the living room and dropping dominos all over the floor. I asked her what she was doing. She told me she was the Tooth Fairy and she was dropping fairy dust. I asked her what she did with all the teeth she collected. I said, "Do you make a necklace out of them?" She replied (in her most fairiest fairy voice), "No. I turn them into little white marshmallows!"

Why didn't I think of that?

My little girl is growing up!

Sadie lost her first tooth on Monday. She just turned 5 in December. I can't believe it, although I shouldn't be surprised since Jonah was also 5 when he lost his first tooth. And so was I.

The Tooth Fairy came, of course, and left her a gold $1 coin. She also sprinkled Fairy Dust all over the bedroom. Yesterday on the way home from school, Sadie said to me, "When we get home, I'm going to sprinkle the fairy dust on me and see if it will make me fly." Isn't that the most adorable thing ever?!? And she really did try it.

She told me, "Mama, I'm not your little girl anymore." She'll always be my little girl.

Poop happens!

Life as a mom is never dull! Poor Violet was having some tummy troubles but thankfully, they have resolved. She was constipated for almost a week. Yesterday, I had to break out the suppositories! That was fun! But it worked. Then she had a blowout this morning. She slept for 6.5 hours last night (the longest stretch ever since she was born) and now this morning, she has been asleep for over 2 hours. She must have been absolutely miserable. Poor baby.

I am sitting here bracing for the ice storm that is supposedly heading our way. There are a few flakes flying outside my window right now. I am going to pick Jonah up from school early so we don't get stuck in the mess. He will not be happy. I hope Michael leaves work early too but I doubt it now that he is the "Big Boss Man!"

Violet's awake!

Long time, no see

The kids are on winter break. We desperately need to get out of the house! Maybe we will go to the bookstore later.

Violet is teething and constipated – makes for a fun combination. She got her first tooth and first haircut last week (see the before and after photos above). She's growing so fast!

Sadie has 2 "wobbly" teeth, as she calls them. It's going to be so strange when she loses a tooth. I still think of her as my baby. I hated it when Jonah started getting his big person teeth, but he has grown into them nicely. It doesn't hurt that he has a huge head. All of our kids have "parade float" heads according to my husband. So hopefully, that means Sadie will grow into hers nicely as well.

I had a lovely birthday! I can't believe I am 35. Holy cow. I am now considered AMA (advanced maternal age) as my friend Angela likes to point out. Michael took the day off work. We had family portraits made in the morning. They were the first professional pictures we've had taken since Violet was born. I can't wait to see them. The morning started out a little rough. Jonah and I got into an argument over his hair. His hair! He's an 8 year old boy, not a teenage girl for crying out loud. Anyway, I told him to leave and that I didn't want him in the pictures. So he did. Luckily, he only ran away to the backyard. He finally agreed to let me fix his hair so that he didn't look like a Jonas Brother (oh and by the way, he wants to change his name to Jonas).

Then, I got to go shopping while my darling husband stayed home with the kids. Two blissful hours alone at The Summit! Wow. I forgot how nice it is to go shopping alone. I can't remember the last time I got to do that.

Michael and I had reservations that night at Corbett's. It was very fancy schmancy. Our bill with tip was $180 (for 2 of us)! It was totally worth it though. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. It was nice to see how the other half lives. The kids stayed at my parents' house. Violet even managed to behave and not scream her head off the whole time. It was the first date Michael and I have had since our anniversary in November. I almost forgot what adult conversation was like. It was a very enjoyable day! We'll have to do that more often (at a cheaper place of course).

Violet is napping again. Sadie and Jonah are playing "I spy" and getting along very well for the moment. Let's hope that lasts until Wednesday when they go back to school. I won't hold my breath!

Blah

I'm feeling very blah today. I'm so tired. My kids are driving me bleeping nuts. I can't wait for school to start! I hate feeling like this. I'm not enjoying them at all right now. It makes me very sad to feel this way. I just wish they would stop fighting so much. Thank goodness they are getting along at the moment. They are outside on the slip-n-slide. We'll see how long that lasts.

I have to get out of this funk. I want to have fun with my kids again. I don't want them to look back on their childhood and remember me as a crotchety old hag who was always yelling and rolling her eyes. What am I doing wrong?

The only time Jonah and I get along is when we are reading "Harry Potter." The minute I stop reading, we start fighting. He is constantly arguing with me and bossing Sadie around or tormenting her. This causes Sadie to scream at the top of her lungs which not only grates on my nerves but wakes up the baby. Then I am mad at all three of them.

I want to be a fun mommy. A good mommy. I don't want to yell. I love my kids, but some days I just want to run away and today is one of those days. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

It's 1:30 and I'm still in my PJ's!

Today has been a typical day so far – although I wasn't awoken by a shrill scream this morning as I have been for the past week. That was a pleasant surprise! Jonah and Sadie actually got along very well this morning while Violet and I slept in. Of course the house was a total disaster area when I got up, but at least I got some much needed sleep.

Right now, Violet is sleeping and the kids are playing outside – with their umbrellas on a sunny, not-a-cloud-in-the-sky day, but hey, at least they're outside!

Jonah is taking a break from the "book" he is writing called "The Five Dragons." He's been working on it all morning. Maybe it will be a best seller and it will make us rich. Oprah, are you out there???

So yesterday a funny thing happened. I was sitting on the couch nursing Violet. Sadie came up and said, "Mama, can I have some "Nums?" (It use to be "nummy" but I guess now that she is a big girl of four, she's too cool to call it nummy. I told her she was too big for "nums" and that it was for Violet now. "Please, Mommy. Pretty please. Just a little bit? Just this much (holding her fingers together)? I'll take that one (pointing to the unoccupied breast)! It's so good." It was hilarious. She was so sweet and sincere but teasing at the same time. In the end, she was distracted by something else and let it go. Jonah, however, was upset that he couldn't remember what it tastes like and began to ask me if he could have some. There isn't enough money in the world for the therapy that would take to undo, for me and him! ;-)

That's all for now. It's too quiet out there. I must go check to make sure they haven't run away! Nevermind, here comes one now...and here comes the other...
